Easy Sweet Potato Toast Without a Toaster {Sweet & Savory Options} Gluten Free

I recently discovered the sweet potato toast trend, and ever since, I have not gone back to the “sweet potato toast-less” life, and I certainly don’t plan on it anytime soon!

If you haven’t heard of sweet potato toast, basically, you slice up sweet potatoes into thin slices, bake them until crispy, and throw on a bunch of toppings.🙌🏻 One great thing about sweet potato slices is that they can be stored for quite some time in your fridge. I love making these at the beginning of the week and having them to snack on throughout the rest of the week. Of course, sweet do not actually taste like a real toast, but it is so fun to eat them in this form, and a great excuse to put toppings on yet another thing! I’m definitely all about the toppings.

I’ve noticed how many people Cook the potato slices halfway in the oven, and then legitimately put them in their toaster to make them extra crispy. I tried that technique several times, and every single time, my sweet potato toast got stuck in the toaster, burned, or was extremely difficult to get out. So instead, I like to bake the toast almost completely in the oven, store them in a container until I’m ready to eat them, and then throw them under the broiler for a few minutes so they can get warmed up again. This method has worked out great for me, and I no longer have to dig out sweet potato toast that is stuck somewhere deep in my toaster! It is a win-win-win!

INGREDIENTS:

* Sweet potato/s

* Toppings

INSTRUCTIONS:

1. Preheat oven to 425 Degrees Fahrenheit.

2. Begin by rinsing and scrubbing your potato/potatoes. If you want to peal the skins, do that now. I left mine on.

3. Cut off both ends of the potato.

4. Take a sweet potato and cut it into 1/4 inch slices. You can use a knife, but I definitely recommend a mandolin for this if you have one.

5. Now, lay the sweet potato slices on a baking sheet, making sure none of them are touching each other.

6. at this point, you can add spices if you would like. You can add cinnamon for a yummy sweet toast combo, or salt and pepper for a savory flavor. I didn’t add any spices this time to keep my “toast” neutral.

7. bake in the oven for 25-35 minutes. You can flip halfway through for a more even cook. Make sure the sweet potato doesn’t become too mushy. Stop cooking slightly before the toast is ready so you can heat it up later without it getting burnt.

8. if you are going to eat the toast immediately, proceed to step #8, but if you plan on saving them for later, store in a fridge, and then do the followings steps before serving.

9. place the sweet potato toasts under a broiler for just a few minutes until they are to your desired toastiness and and warmth.

10. now is the most amazing part, because you get to add whatever toppings you desire. The options are totally endless for this. Some ideas of things you can use our fruits, nut butter, tahini, veggies, avocados, eggs, Hummus, and so much more. Basically, whatever you can put on normal test, you can put on this. Here is what I put on the toast slices I made this time⬇️⬇️⬇️

* 1st flavor combo—> chunky Almond butter, cinnamon, walnuts, blueberries, coconut

* 2nd flavor combo—> peanut butter with cocoa powder, mashed raspberries with chia seeds (to create a healthy “jam”), hemp seeds

* 3rd flavor combo—->avocado, cherry tomatoes, seasoning, fresh lime juice

*NOTE*

If you are like me, and sometimes too lazy to want to heat up the tensed up every time you eat it, you can just eat it cold. I honestly think it is super tasty this way, just make sure to cook details long enough for it to be tender.
